New master plan for Expo City Dubai approved
Anchored in Dubai's growth, Expo City is poised to become the city's central economic hub.
Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled an ambitious new master plan for Expo City Dubai.
A thriving urban hub
Spanning 3.5 square kilometres, Expo City Dubai will soon house more than 35,000 residents and 40,000 professionals, setting the stage for a dynamic urban environment.
The master plan integrates major developments, including Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port, and the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), reinforcing Dubai’s global position as a key destination for trade, business, and tourism.
World-class infrastructure
With cutting-edge infrastructure, the plan features a world-class road network and smart transportation systems. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, emphasized the city’s exceptional connectivity through metro lines, buses, taxis, and advanced traffic management systems.
Reflecting on Dubai’s forward-thinking vision, he remarked: “A decade ago, we laid the foundation for a city to host the world, fostering innovation and sustainability. Today, we’re taking another leap forward by establishing Expo City as a global magnet for pioneers and a community for residents."
A cornerstone for future growth
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted Expo City as central to Dubai’s growth strategy. “Expo City Dubai is the model for the future of urban centres. It not only drives economic expansion but also enhances the quality of life for everyone living in Dubai,” he noted.
Expanding global business opportunities
Aligned with Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy by 2033, the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City is expected to triple the economic contribution of the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) sector by 2033.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Expo City Dubai Authority, stated: "Expo City will become the cornerstone of Dubai’s southern growth, providing unparalleled opportunities for businesses, investors, and residents alike."
Sustainable urban development
Expo City Dubai’s new master plan focuses heavily on sustainable development, with an ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050. The city will seamlessly blend environmental responsibility with urban progress, making it a model for sustainable living.
A strategic trade and logistics hub
Located within Dubai’s Logistics Corridor, Expo City offers prime access to both Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, explained that this corridor will reduce sea-to-air transfer times to under an hour, boosting Dubai’s global trade connectivity.
A future-driven vision
The new plan includes the creation of Expo Hills and Expo Fields districts, designed to promote sustainable living. The city will also feature a campus dedicated to innovative businesses that focus on environmental and social progress.
With key performance indicators in areas like biodiversity, energy efficiency, and economic growth, Expo City is poised to become a global leader in sustainable urban development.
